Hello, Old Friends

Sweet Valley Confidential: Ten Years Later by Francine Pascal (A)--nostalgia for the dozens of Sweet Valley books that I read when I was younger dictates the "A" for this book. What better than a reunion book that allows me to revisit trusted companions that I practically grew up with? I'll pretend not to notice that everything was a bit too predictable and a bit like poor Francine is out of touch with modern times. I was also a bit worried that time isn't moving just right in Sweet Valley. The twins were in high school when I was in middle school and now they are younger than me... Nonetheless, I'll read a reunion book with characters I loved as a youngster any day of the week.

  1. I've been dying to read this book too. I looked at it in the store the other day, but just couldn't justify the cost given the size of the book. I might have to buy the electronic version. As soon as I heard about it I was sold - anything that takes me back to those books can't be that bad! ;)

  2. I ordered on Amazon so it wasn't too bad. There aren't many books I'll buy in hardcover but this is one I'd recommend.

  3. Alas, I was too old for the Sweet Valley books the first time through, but I know what you mean about remembering the characters from your youth. I feel that way about Nancy Drew - although the new Nancy Drew books in Graphic Novel form (fancy talk for "comic book") annoy my to no end. Just call me a traditionalist - or old.

But I'm sure many library patrons who remember the originals will love this. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

  4. Thanks for sharing this. I hadn't heard about it, but now I must read it! :) Now, if only Ann Martin would do something similar for The Babysitter's Club, I'd really be set! :D lol
